  • Want In? Favorite NYC Picnic Spots

Happy Friday, New Yorkers! Back on Monday, we asked you guys for suggestions for one of our favorite summer pastimes: the picnic. After all, there’s little we love more than spending a long afternoon in the park enjoying fresh fruit, bread and cheese, and maybe some wine in plastic cups with our friends.

The problem we were running into was where to go for a picnic. So, we asked you for your favorite picnic spots, all around the city. After all, it’s kind of a bummer to end up on a bench in the East Village - it’s not actually a park. We’d rather find somewhere with at least enough grass to spread a blanket on, and at least one tree to shade us. A view would be nice too.

As usual, you had opinions, but we didn’t get quite enough suggestions to run the contest. However, that doesn’t mean we’d deprive you of the suggestions you did offer. So, we’re sharing your suggestions, plus adding a couple of our own favorites, so that the rest of you can spend the summer checking out these grassy patches out, picnic basket in hand.

  • Want In? Picnic Spots

Happy Monday, New Yorkers! Looks like we’ve got another hot one on the books today. We love summer.

In fact, if it hadn’t been so off-and-on rainy this weekend, we’d been planning to indulge in one of our absolute favorite summer activities: the picnic. There’s little we love more than spending a long afternoon in the park enjoying fresh fruit, bread and cheese, and maybe some wine in plastic cups with our friends.

You too? Wonderful. Then that means we can ask you where your favorite picnic spots are, all around the city. It’s kind of a bummer to end up on a bench in the East Village - it’s not actually a park. We’d rather find somewhere with at least enough grass to spread a blanket on, and at least one tree to shade us. A view would be nice too.

Regardless, we’re pretty sure you have an opinion on this.

  • Want In? Results: Best Bagels

Back on Monday, we asked you about your favorite bagels here in NYC. We’ve been craving bagels lately - you know, hot and fresh out of the oven, chewy and soft on the inside, with that signature warm bagel smell wafting out as you bite in…

We knew it would be a controversial debate to start. After all, this is New York, and bagels are iconic. We wouldn’t want to step on anyone’s toes. But, we also figured that some pretty awesome suggestions would come out of it, and that we might just discover our new favorite bagel shop that we’re willing to travel for.

Needless to say, you guys didn’t let us down. We had lots of suggestions, but a handful showed up enough times for us to have a definitive top five from you. Some of the others are included below - after all, we can’t always trek for bagels, and it’s nice to know there are more than five good bagel places in this sprawling city.

We’re warning you though - you might decide (like us) that you should really try all these bagels. Your stomach will thank you.

  • Want In? Bagels

Yesterday, on a lovely Sunday morning, we were thinking how much we’d love a bagel. Hot and fresh out of the oven, chewy and soft on the inside, with that signature warm bagel smell wafting out as you bite in.

Now, we’ve got a few ideas ourselves where we should have gone (and did go), but we thought we would ask you. It’s bound to be controversial, for sure, but we’re pretty sure some incredible suggestions are bound to come out of it. We might just discover our new favorite bagel shop that we’re willing to travel for.

So, come on, New Yorkers, we know you have opinions on the city’s best bagels. After all, no one does bagels like New Yorkers. (Montrealers, you can chime in, too, but your bagels are a different beast altogether, though equally delicious.)

  • Want In? Results: Best Margaritas

Margaritas, anyone? On Monday, we told you how we’ve been craving this delicious Mexican drink, preferably paired with chips and guacamole, or a few fish tacos, enjoyed from a shady outdoor patio.

We should probably just buy a plane ticket to Mexico, but, in the interim, we’d like to sip a quality margarita - none of that plastic bottle tequila and margarita mix, thank you very much. No, we want the real deal.

So, asked you guys for your recommendations, and, as usual, you delivered. We’ve rounded up your favorites - there were a lot - and curated them a tiny bit. Looks like we’ve got a lot of drinking to do this summer.

Without further ado, your favorite margaritas in NYC:

  • Want In? Pools in NYC

Looks like we’re in for a hot one this week. Even with thunderstorms anticipated today and tomorrow, it’s not going to cool down at all. So, we’re thinking the best way to cool off will be with a quick swim.

Uh oh. Swimming in NYC? Short of being members of certain sports clubs, we don’t know how we’ll find a pool in which to take a dip. And which sports clubs?

We’ve heard about public pools, but doesn’t that sound a little bit sketchy? We mean, there might be some good ones, but how will we know?

Yep, we need your help, readers. We’re pretty sure you have some tips on where in the city we can get take a dip to cool off - after all, you’re New Yorkers, and the best tips come from friends.

  • Want In? Results: Your Favorite Pies

Back on Monday, we asked you guys for your favorite pies here in NYC. It was a little bit of a selfish move, we admit, considering our own deep-seated love of pie.

It’s pretty much the quintessential summer dessert, if you ask us; ice cream is delicious and deserving of its own month, but it’s a little too oozy and sticky to be the best summer dessert ever. Plus, pie is the best way ever to use all that delicious summer fruit. And then you can pair it with ice cream - the two complement each other nicely.

So, now that we’ve extolled the virtues of this delicious baked good, you probably want to know where you should get it, don’t you? And what you should get when you go?

We have our own opinions on the subject, but, for now, here’s what you had to say, in no particular order:

  • Want In? Best Pies in NYC

ETA: Check out the results over here!

Apparently there’s a heat wave on, guys. Which means (obviously) that it’s not going to get any more summery than this and we have to pull out all the stops on our summer celebration. So, time to barbecue, go swimming, hang out on rooftop bars, eat ice cream, go to the beach, and - because what is more American? - eat pie.

If we’re honest, we’ll actually eat pie in every season - it may well be our favorite dessert - but we’re always looking for excuses to eat it. Birthday? Pie! Promotion? Pie! Picnic? Pie!

But where should we get the best pies? We know if we headed out of the city, into farm country, we’d find lots of fresh fruit pies - berry, peach, and strawberry-rhubarb are all in season - but we don’t really have the luxury of heading upstate tonight just to find a really awesome pie.

As usual, this is where you come in. We’re pretty sure you have some tips on where in the city we can get awesome pies - after all, you’re New Yorkers, and the best tips come from friends.
